H YOUTH 7 you get the name YOUTH YOUT! I like the lyrics alot but, - where did Rob - Well it's from the Generation X song, I found the guitar solo to long. ~ How long have you been together ? Rob - Well, I've been in the band for about two у years, butwe went through a big change about a year and a half ago, So I would say we have been t together about a year and a half as we stand now. - Were you in any previous bands 1 ed my first punk band in - I've been ín a couple of bands, 1 join 4978 as — bad, but for all intended purposes this has been my first popular band that I've played іп, 5 they wo nfluences ) for i 4. - What are your lyrics mainly about, or what do they deal with ? Rob - Well, were not a band that sort of preaches one theme, like, I like Jischarge alot, but I think that their lyrics seem to get a bit redundant, I mean it can achieve in effect, but I couldn't be content saying one thing, So every song pretty much hits on a different problem, there's alot of songs that deal with what I think will happen in the futur if we dont do something now, so its not all pesemistical, Im just saying that it stinks right now d that it could be better later on, he been a good responce toward your cassette which you had earlier - Has there ы 4t, we — it out sold what we had thought, we E ——— — ша have sold more, except it was mainly concentra’ never made a big deal about advertising anywhere else. - How many did you sell ? Rob - The last count was about 500 , it's really good!! - When you played in Ottawa at the YCP festival ( in december ) how was the crowd reaction ? Rob - Well, it was hard on us because we went on the last, and there's this thing in Ottawa, where everyone has to take a bus to get home , because they dont have any all-night transit, and the show wasn't near the downtown core area, so alot of people had to leave early so there wasn't that much audience to react by tne time we went on. Hob - No, usually we just go out ior one or two days and then come back, but we would like to go on tour real soon, like some time this summer, but it sort of depends on what's going on here because if things are going really good down here we dont want to take off in the middle of it, but we would like to sometime this summer, but its hard to know weather to head N-£-S or west, we thought about going east but once you hit about 3 or 4 places there's not much, we're afraid we might run out of places. The Boston Not LA album didn't really blow me away, I think this tape is much better than that. We've only been here for four hours. Do you think Montreal is American? I Don't know, the only people I've met are here. The song'Fuck the U.S.A‘ Are you talking about the scene, or is it political? Its about American life. You've got rich people who don't give a shit about the people who аге рос. In Britain, you've got Social Security. You get more in Britain. In America you get fuck-all. Do you laugh at the States when you play there & all the people who go to you're gigs, ar do you get into it or what? Same of the people, the punks we've met,are poor people, working class. You have people like that who can't get jobs. Where do you guys come fram? Scotland, apart from the drummer. Wanker. Do you have a good job? Who us? No its shit, its the worst job in the world, this. Why did you join the army? To stay out of trouble, in Glascow. I used to fight all the time. Its better than jail, you get paid. Why did you leave the army? Because of my hair. IT USED TO BF THAT ANARCHY WAS A DANGEROUS OCCUPATION, NOT A DRUNKEN PASTIME. IN OLDEN DAYS, A CONVICTED GOVERN- MENT OPPONENT WAS TORTURED TO DEATH OR PUBLICLY PULLED APART BY HORSES AS A LESSON TO OTHERS. THESE DAYS, THOSE WHO ARE CAUGHT BY RE- PRESSIVE GOVERNMENTS ARE JAILED JNDEFINITELY, OR ARE FOUND DEAD FROM MYSTERIOUS SUICINES IN PRISON, OR THEY JUST DISAPPEAR IN THE NIGHT- NEVER TO BE SEEN. REAL SOCIAL AND POLITICAL OPPONENTS ARE STILL PLAY- ING WITH THEIR LIVES. THEY RISK BEING BETRAYED TO OR DISCOVERED BY THE VERY INSTITUTIONS THEY WANT TO DISRUPT. FOR THEM, IT IS NOTA GAME OF PAINTING ICCNS ON A WALL OR JACKET TO IMPRESS FRIENDS, OR TO PRETEND THAT SPRAYED SLOGANS IN ANY WAY SOLVES SOCIETY'S PROPLEMS.
